July marked a significant milestone for our study. We are delighted to inform that on the 8th of July, 2022 the clinical study EMPIRICAL (Empirical treatment against cytomegalovirus and tuberculosis in severe pneumonia in HIV-infected infants: a randomized controlled clinical trial) randomized patient number 312, which is 50% of the target of 624.
Patients were enrolled in 19 hospitals of Mozambique, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Ivory Coast.
EMPIRICAL is an EDCTP-funded research project that is evaluating whether empirical treatment against cytomegalovirus and tuberculosis improves the survival of HIV-infected infants with severe pneumonia.
