Joyce Macheso is the lead nurse for the EMPIRICAL study at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH). She is a pediatric nurse by training and was working under another paediatric study here at Malawi-Liverpool Wellcome Trust prior to her role with EMPIRICAL.
In EMPIRICAL, she is the point person for screening, recruitment, informed consent, and study procedures at QECH. Joyce Macheso is very enthusiastic when it comes to following up each recruited participant before, during and after scheduled and unscheduled appointments. She is also their focal point if they have any problems or concerns related to the study after discharge.
“I enjoy being a mother of two children, cooking and baking for my family, farming, washing for my husband and watching TV —my favourite show is Zuba,” says with regard to her free time. She is also part of the health committee at her church and advises people on different health topics like COVID-19 preventative measure.
