Dr Vivian Mumbiro is the team leader for screening, recruitment, and follow-up medical management of EMPIRICAL participants during and after hospital admission, at the University of Zimbabwe Clinical Research Centre.
Eugenia Bilana is a member of EMPIRICAL in Manhiça and deals with the consent forms related to the IMTs and organizes and controls the material that will be used to carry out IMTs.
The world has been reminded of the toll of pneumonia as countries struggle to control the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 has claimed more than 1 million lives so far in 2020,1 but other infectious diseases have caused pneumonia-related mortality for decades.
Sónia Martins is the Nurse Coordinator for the EMPIRICAL study at sites coordinated by UEM, and personally follows up with each recruited family before follow-up appointments and is their focal point if they have any problems or concerns related to the study after discharge.
Despite being a little bit behind the recruitment schedule, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the EMPIRICAL consortium has now recruited patients. Stay tuned to the project news!
