The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), in close collaboration with Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme (MLW) and in partnership with the University of Malawi College of Medicine, leads the clinical trial in the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, in Malawi.
About LSTM/MLW
The Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme (MLW) is an affiliate of the University of Malawi College of Medicine (COM). Established in 1995, MLW’s vision is to conduct internationally excellent research to benefit health and we train the next generation of researchers. In pursuit of this important mission, MLW is implementing two clinical research programmes focusing on preventing death and transmission of infections.
Researchers
Pui-Ying Iroh Tam is Head of Paediatrics and Child Health Research Group, Senior Clinical Lecturer at LSTM, Consultant Paediatrician at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, and Head of the Paediatric and Child Health Research Group at MLW. Her specialist training is in Paediatric Infectious Diseases, and her fellowship research applied phylogenomics to the study of common pneumococcal protein vaccine candidates. As Assistant Professor of Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunology at the University of Minnesota she validated and evaluated molecular diagnostics as a method of surveillance in resource-limited settings. She relocated to Malawi to head the paediatric research group, develop a research agenda relevant to paediatric and child health in Malawi, and to further pursue her interest in global health research, with a focus on paediatric translational research, clinical studies and trials.
